Osteoporosis symptoms are often difficult to notice, and as such, it is known as a “silent disease” that can bring further catastrophe to a person’s health if left unnoticed for a long period of time.  Knowing this, it is important to be aware of the possible signs of the disease to ensure that you can find the proper treatment immediately.

During the early stages of this medical condition, the symptoms are barely noticeable, or they might not even be present at all.  As the condition progresses, common osteoporosis symptoms might take the form of sharp pains and other aches that can be felt in the bones or muscles.  Primarily, such sharp pains can be felt on the lower back or the neck area. When this happens, it means that the disease has already started to develop, and it is essential to prevent its progression into more severe stages.

Another clear indication of when someone has osteoporosis symptoms is the “dowager’s hump” or when someone’s body posture begins to stoop low. Even when the hump is not immediately noticeable, those with osteoporosis symptoms can experience a similar decrease in stature. This occurs because of a fracture in the bones or a spinal compression.  Bone fractures are common among those suffering from osteoporosis. These fractures can be caused by extreme accidents or even just by doing simple tasks like walking.  Fractures on the hip and pelvic bone can be especially difficult to treat even after the person has undergone surgery, as the bones are not healthy enough to provide support.

Other osteoporosis symptoms include cramps and pains in the legs, and the feeling that the bones or the muscles are being punctured from the inside.  However, please not that these symptoms might be indications of other types of diseases, so it would be best to consult a medical professional regarding the pains.



Women who are already past their menopausal stage might opt to get regular tests for their bone density to check for osteoporosis.  Other means of identifying and verifying osteoporosis symptoms include CTs for the spine, MRIs, and blood tests.  Some of these tests, however, might have health risks that can be prevented, such as inappropriate exposure to radiation.

Since some of these osteoporosis symptoms cannot be easily noticed, it is essential that everyone do all they can to take care of their bones properly.  The most important elements that the bones should get include Calcium, Vitamin D (which aids in the absorption of calcium in the bones), Vitamin K, and Magnesium.

Changing a person’s lifestyle once he/she has observed possible osteoporosis symptoms might be truly helpful in preventing the progression of the disease.  This includes limiting the consumption of alcohol, getting regular exercise, and quitting smoking.

Being watchful of your health and immediately taking action once you notice some abnormalities would be a good way to prevent osteoporosis.  Most osteoporosis symptoms can easily be avoided with the proper nutrition and by ensuring that your activities are in line with making your bones stronger and healthier.
